BRAINS, MINDS AND INTELLECTUAL PATTERNS........ HOW ARE THESE RELATED TO
EACH
OTHER AND TO SOCIETY? WHAT DEFINES AND DISTINGUISHES AN INTELLECTUAL
PATTERN?
Hi Roger
welcome to chicago! we are almost neighbors. i live only a short distance
from the city.
first i want to say that, as a rule, i never discuss zen or mysticism...its
much too personal a subject. and we can certainly see the results of my
indescretion in setting aside my rule and answering Malbins post, which i
considered inaccurate and misleading. oh well. live and learn.
back to the PROGRAM. to my way of seeing it, Brain is an
inorganic/biological function, Mind is awareness or experience, and
intellect is the breaking free from the structure of the social level by
means of de-structuring the structure of society. intellect can be defined
as a blank spot, a stuckness, that manifests when we conceive the Quality
Event in its entirety before it appears. the intellect conceives Quality
Event by destructuring the now social perception to allow the next social
perception to appear.
Roger:
The other concern is that it interrupts the dynamics...... True, but it
also
applies some very much needed static latches. This forum is not supposed to
be a cocktail party. We should reflect and condense our thots. We should
pursue intellectual values , not social values.
Glove:
although it would be nice to pursue only intellectual values here, i feel
that is impossible. purely intellectual thoughts have no social foundation
on which to stand and are impossible to agree with. whether we like it or
not, this IS like a cocktail party...a socializing event where we have all
come together for a short while to share our thoughts.
this in itself lends much credence to my notion that nearly everything we
experience on a day to day basis is social level phenomena. and for those
who think otherwise, there will be only disappointment and complaining and
finally a resignation to even attempting to understand the nature of
reality. such is life.
Roger:
For months I assumed most members were posting from their work - and some
do.
But it is becoming increasingly clear that many of our members are not
employed full time. Don't get me wrong, that is great, it is just that I
wonder if we are running off many members that don't give their full time to
this group. I say that takes away from the dynamics of the group. We need
more
scientists and executives and travel agents to supplement the students and
musicians and retired.(remember Walter!)
Glove:
since i work out of my home, i guess i always post from work. yet i must
also add that i have a moral problem with those who conduct personal
business while being paid a wage to perform a service for the employer, not
chat. as a former employer, that was a huge problem coping with and is one
of the reasons i no longer am an employer.
i am not sure that scientists, executives and travel agents would even have
an interest in the Metaphysics of Quality unless they were exceptional
individuals. i do work for all kinds of people...most are socialized and
have no room for discussing something as obtuse as reality. they already
know what reality is. reality for them is getting more stuff and buying new
cars and working their lives away until they are too old and too worn out to
be of any use to anyone, then put out to pasture.
there is a saying...institutionalized...that is applied to convicts who have
spent many years locked away in the prison system. i would say that the very
same thing happens to most people who are imprisoned by society. those who
do make an attempt to break free are ridiculed and ostrasized (see Fintan)
until they either recant or they simply take leave.
personally, i think we need more drop-outs and ner'do'wells here in the
squad! :)
best wishes to all
