    BRAINS, MINDS AND INTELLECTUAL
PATTERNS........ HOW ARE THESE RELATED TO
EACH
OTHER AND TO SOCIETY? WHAT DEFINES AND
DISTINGUISHES AN INTELLECTUAL
PATTERN?

It seems to me that the brain is the physical
organ that is encased at the top of my human body.
The brain is physical and material in that it can
be objectively measured or sensed by any sentient
being possessing the 5 sensory awarenesses (or
their extensions, ie microscopes).
The mind is a sixth sensory awareness. the
mind is that part of a being which is aware of
"metal objects" such as language, ideas and
concepts. The mind is not physical nor material in
that it can not be objectively measured or sensed
by the 5 sensory awarenesses. The mind therefore
can only be subjectively, or interiorly,
perceived.
The human mind is a specialized awareness that
is produced when the brain organ senses, or comes
in contact with, language. Analogous to visual
awareness, produced when the eye organ senses
light. Therefore it follows that if either
language or the brain is missing then mind
awareness does not arise. For example, humans
raised by wolfs don't develop linguistic thought.
The mind, like any other awareness, can be
development into different degrees of
"sensitivities." For example a dog has a "higher"
awareness of smell than a human, a human has a
higher mental awareness than a dolphin.
It seems to me that a society is a group of
beings which share a common communication for the
purpose of developing "higher" levels of
awareness. Through language, human societies pass
on the current level of mental awareness to the
individuals. The different levels of mental
awareness is what Pirsig calls intellectual
patterns.
