Lithien and all the other evil philosophers:
1. IS EVIL A SEPARATE OR DISTINCT FORCE? Yes and No.
Evil a real feature of reality, which is ultimately indivisable and
continuous, but can only be modeled in the intellect by use of dualisms.
2. DOES EVIL EXIST? Duh!
The intellectual maps we make may not be perfect, but it is a genuine
phenomenon that prompts our surveys. I mean, just look around or just
read a newspaper.
3. WHAT IS EVIL? Violation of the five moral codes,... and...
The price of freedom. Evil is impossible without freedom. Evil is the
wrong choice. Dynamic Quality is incapable of such a mistake, but the
intellect is most free and most likely to produce evil in the world. I'm
not sure about the social level as a source of evil? IMO the social
level values we've inherited are outdated and no longer
serve us well. Evil has been produced in attempts to create new social
values with the intellect (impossible) and in attempts to cling to those
antiquated values. Further, the old social values will continue to exist
in that level, but evolution (Dynamic Quality) will produce a new layer
over the top of the entire structure. In other words, in time a new
layer of the mythos will be produced in response to the new ways we
experience our daily lives. IMO this explains the storm of the 20th
century, energy leased from the pent up static grip of the Victorians.
Their demise demonstates the collapse of a worn out mythos.
4. IS EVIL NECESSARY? Yes and No.
Seems to me it's necessary as a teacher. It tells us where Quality is
lacking. But since the MOQ says we're all on a ride toward Dynamic
Quality, I tend to think the existence of evil is not eternal. Rob's
idea that insensitivity, fear, and clinging to desires is the cause of
evil isn't bad. Although I view those negative emotions as
manifestations of ignorance. So I conclude that it is an immature or
otherwise underdeveloped consciousness that is the source of evil.
Blindness is evil.
5. EXPLAIN THE HITLERS AND DAHMERS?
I already took a crack at this one, so I'll use this space to respond to
Lithen's comments about that attempt.( Lithien suggests Hitler is best
understood as a follower of Hegel's philosophy.) I know what you mean
and I can recognize Hegel's philosophy in Hitler's political ambitions,
but its a tight fit. One of the main features of fascism, even in other
places and times, is its lack of any consistent ideology. Fascism is
intellectually opportunistic. It picks and chooses whatever works as a
justification for their deeds. Hitler appropriated lots of good ideas to
serve his poltical ends and glorify himself. Its alot like the
anti-evolutionist. They dress up a theological position in scientific
clothes and call it creationism. But no intellectual honest person
really believes creationism is scientific. Hilter got a lot of mileage
out of Nitzsche and Jung too. You can imagine how he butchered the
Superman ideas.
Hitler had very few rational ideas, just a lot of rationalizations.
Don't blame Hegel.
6.HOW DO WE RID OURSELFS OF EVIL?
Expand consciousness wherever and whenever you can, then it'll go away,
having been reduced to Dynamic tension and the occasional minor
conflict. Move toward DQ at every moment.
