Touché! Let me continue on this line of thought, I'd say that science uses
this knowledge incorrectly. The reductionist stance of science says that
since particles are results of quantum events and cats are made of
particles,
then cats can be described in terms of quantum events. This leads to the
far fetched conclusion that the whole cat is in a superstate of alive/dead
until someone decides to take a peek.
I come to think of Struan's post yesterday, you said (if I got it right):
Einstein asked Bohr: Does the moon exist only when we look at it?
Einstein thought that since the moon is made of particles which are
the results of quantum events, then the moon is the result of quantum
events, and quantum events only happens when there is an observer
involved.
Bohr answered: No, the moon exists but we can't KNOW that it exists
until it is observed.
Bohr still thinks that the moon exists as a quantum function, quite
a few actually, independent of observation.
This is where the MoQ parts with Bohr. The MoQ says that the moon
does not exist independent of observation. The observer however,
doesn't have to be a person, or an instrument made by man. It can
be any static pattern. The moon is very real to a meteor coming too
close, it makes the meteor stop quite abruptly.
A Quality Event is not exactly the same as a quantum event. A
Quality Event can be of four distinct types (guess which :),
whereas a quantum event only translates to inorganic Quality
Events.
BTW Struan, Bohr's last resort of 'existing' vs. 'knowing that something
exists', isn't that a dualism? If it isn't, then the 'knowing' would be
deductible from the 'existing' or vice versa, right? But it isn't directly
deductible either way, only through the observation process, and that's
only a one-way street. It sure looks like objects vs. subjects to me.
