hi, glove, you pondered:
<If this isn't recognized, the destructive intellect level may be
>perceived as something evil. Isn't this very notion what brought on the
Dark
>Ages? It sounds suspiciously like a stasis in the Metaphysics of Quality to
>me.
lithien:
that in fact is what happened during the Dark Ages, glove.
much of the knowledge that spurred on the European Renaissance was
transmitted by the Moors who occupied Spain for hundreds of years. the
arabic culture preserved much of the Greek discoveries and it filtered down
from them unto Europe. Why? because they werent Christian. it was the
Catholic church which kept society in the "dark" because they were afraid
the intellectual level would discredit their beliefs and mandates.
glove continues:
>Certainly our ancestors must have had to "outgrow" this phase, but look how
>many hundreds of years the intellect was persecuted and condemned. Are we
>really that far removed from those tribes in Brazil even now?
lithien:
that is why this country is so afraid of the christian right. they will try
to impose their beliefs and control the intellect. it just takes one
election to take us back hundreds of years! its scary.
glove adds:
>This leads into a rant about the new Lila Squad I am afraid. I have kind of
>been quiet about all the goings on and I really like the new webpage
>layout...it's very well done I think. But as far as the moderated list, I
>will not be joining now or any time in the future. This month has produced
>some of the best posts I have read since joining the LS back in, what,
early
>June of '98 I think. And we had no PROGRAM topic at all in January '99.
lithien:
i agree with you totally, glove.
you continue:
>With a moderated list, how many of those posts would have made it thru? I
>ask you. And it would all depend on who is doing the moderating. I for one
>would rather have that choice myself. >I remember Hugo Alroe suggested a
few months ago that there be no PROGRAM
>topic at all, and I would like to second the motion. At least for the
>unmoderated list anyway. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
lithien:
yes, im glad there is another lila squad that is unmoderated where we can
continue as we are. i see a very strong parallel with that and dynamic
quality. DQ cannot be moderated because no one knows how it works and where
it will come out. so i agree with you on that too.
love,
lithien
