Naughty naughty !! I seem to remember synthesising a definition of SOM that most in the squad
(myself not included) accepted.

If the problem lies in, "what we mean by observation," then it is a problem of language. You (as you
often do) want to forward a strict, discrete definition of it, at the expense of all others. I think
(as I often do) that it is open to various interpretations, each one of which may be right in a
particular context.

As I said before, your definition is perfectly reasonable but isn't the whole story.
