    That is certainly a metaphor I like. (= I agree). A "mantra" of mine has
    long been that there is a lot of grey between binary opposites, and the
    concepts subjects and objects are no different.

    Northrop's "solution to the basic problem" is to shift from seeing the
    aesthetic continuum from being between two distinct subject / objects to
    being a continuum which incorporates aesthetic and theoretic aspects of both
    concepts. Don't ask met to translate that yet - I've only just read it
    myself, but it rings true.
