I haven't read the passage in a while (and I don't have the book in front of me), but for my own part I don't really remember detecting in heartbreak either.
However, Pirsig would never say anything remotely like "unbiased acknowledgement of fact." It is exactly our bias as good liberals, having learned from Stalin's mistake, that puts us in a better position than the Russian proletariate of 1917.
