Hi Bobby,
I completely agree with you on all accounts, and what esp. appeals to me is
the fact that you say that both intelligence and morals/morality have both a
static and a dynamic component...I've often felt in my conversations with
people around me that we tend to forget that(I've met quite a few people
recently who want me to convert to Christianity, so I'll 'go to heaven after
this life' :) )
The lines you quoted from Pirsig ,
"Although Dynamic Quality the quality of freedom creates this
world in which we live ,these patterns of static quality, the
quality of order ,preserve our world. Neither static nor Dynamic
Quality can survive without the other". LILA page 146 ,
are exactly what I had in mind when I said what I said; I think what
happened was , I got caught up in my own static patterns (I'm a scientist,
and somehow, for me, intellect is always more dynamic than morality) :)
.....if I had been a more 'religious' person like the Lama, I'd have
believed in just the opposite!
I guess what matters in the end is, between two issues/forces, one needs to
examine them closely to see which one is MORE dynamic than the
other.....because nothing is really static, is it?
And MOQ rescues us there, 'cos it helps us realize that whatever has more
Quality should be the driving force for change.
Your reply DID help me think clearer, thanks much !
Swati.
