Re: MF 5th level

Dear fifth level searchers,

(with a p.s. for David B. and Bo)

I want to end my month at MF discussion starting by the consideration that
maybe no one said really why a fifth level will raise (that's like to ask
"why we will need to fight intellect?").

Yesterday night I watched an Italian SF movie: Nirvana (starring:
Christopher Lambert).

I found it a good movie, with an interesting vision of the future:

Socially, a global city (very similar to the city of Blade Runner, and also
to the Pirsig's Giant). A clean division between men: on one side the
technology handlers (like the leading character, JIMI), living in beautiful
houses, and very rich. On the other side the technology users, the poor
people, living in a sort of global brain, where all is controlled by the
Net.

Intellectually there are two different way of using intellect: rich people
live a rational life where all is planned (very SOMist); poor people are
used to dozens of STRANGE activities, searching dynamically for a better way
of life: drugs, meditation, net hacking and so on.... (very MoQist , I
guess)

In this blocked situation, something NEW happens. Jimi begins a trip through
the other side of the Giant, and begins to fight the Global Brain. Why? Just
to help a "virtual" friend (a conscious video-game character): he wants to
die , but he can't. How? Hacking the Net (it's the worst possible crime, and
your brain is cancelled in the moment they catch you).

He is helped by Naima, an hacker girl and by another friend (an ex-Hacker)
who never stops to tell him: "Cool down , Jimi. Don't think!. Clear your
mind! Use your Fantasy".

The intellectual Jimi wins his battle (of course!) while the biological Jimi
is captured (and maybe killed). But the movie ends with the sentence "Naima
is on line!", that means that the hope is still alive until there's someone
fighting the Global Brain.

Seen in the light of this month's discussion, I think that Jimi's behavior
is a fifth level pattern. He found that his rational way of life is not
"Good" because the global brain has the vantage to give you all the
information you need, but also is a new kind of giant, where privacy is
cancelled and people leave in a very static situation. His main weapons are
all irrational: Fantasy, Creativity, Unforeseeability.

So the new fifth level will be when Fantasy will rule the world! This kind
of irrationality is very Good and Dynamic. It's an already existing pattern
in all human beings. It's not social and it's not really intellectual, I
guess.

David B. said that at fifth level it will be usual to be a Genius. I totally
agree.
Fantasy and Creativity are more Dynamic than rationality , are closer to the
Quality Event. People will choose these patterns as new "evolution leader"
when rationality will end his dynamic action. The only stimulus will be , as
always, the search for Good. So I call the 5th level "The Fantasy Level".

These words, and especially the last sentence, meet exactly my idea: SOM is
the main intellectual pattern of third level. MOQ can surpass it and
candidates itself as the main intellectual pattern of fourth level, 'cause
it's better opened to fantasy, creativity.

I saw in MD an "hot" discussion about Pirsig's philosophy: your words seem
to put RMP in a new "eclectic" school: he tries to pick what he founds good
up among many different philosophies to build a new one, more adequate for
our 4th level times.

So MoQ is another philosophy, BO! . It's dividing just as all the others
past philosophies!

I try again, Bo. You asked:

What do you think about:" The Value of an intellectual pattern is the
agreement of Public Opinion on the meaning of its message".

MOQ could be better than SOM when it will be able to give a better answer to
people. It's easy! So can be Public Opinion (an IntPoV) the fixed point you
need? Please, tell me something.

Ok boys! It's time to switch my PC off.

Ciao.
