Hi Diana:
Excellent answers – simple, clear, direct and accurate.
About suggestions received so far:
I would not add energy to the answer of What is inorganic quality? as
Magnus suggests. Pirsig characterizes Dynamic Quality as a force (energy)
many times. Also, nobody really knows what energy is. I also like your
answers to What is biological quality? and How do humans fit into the four
levels of Static Quality? just as they are without any changes.
I like your reply to Hugo regarding What is intellectual quality? Pirsig is
not promoting a different kind of thinking. There is no kind of thinking
other than subject-object thinking. Pirsig is simply promoting a change in
the basic premises upon which subject-object thinking is based. Instead of
the premise A is A, Pirsig offers the premise A is Value. Like you I'm not
sure about a level above the intellectual, but like Bo and Doug, I tend in
that direction and am working on it.
I agree that Doug's suggestion to add the tree of philosophy to What is
metaphysics? unnecessarily complicates the answer. He does make a good
point, however, regarding Lila having quality. Your answer accurately
reflects Pirsig's description of Lila and I trust you'll be able to add
Doug's point in a sentence or two. I don't think we should have trick
questions in the FAQ.
All in all, a super job. Congratulations and many thanks!
Platt
