The analogy of ones mind being like a cup of tea that must be emptied in
order to make room for new tea can be applied to the lifestyle that phaedrus
has chosen while attempting to write the MOQ.

In chosing a boat specifically a sailboat to live upon, Phaedrus has
attempted to create a lifestyle for himself (that of a live aboard sailor)
that is free from the constant interuptions of phone and UPS guy. In Ch 1
he refers to buying huge spaces of time free from interuptions by having a
boat.

Livaboards have a unique lifestyle. They are much more self sufficient
in that they are free from utilities such as the power companies, telephone,
etc. They are also free from the more hectic schedules that most of us
keep. There is a lot more time spent doing the manual chores and activities
associated with sailing, but these times also provide one with the freedom
from the stressful hassles that keep our minds busy most of the time.

Phaedrus has emptied his mind by having the card catalog with its
thousands of slips that he no longer has to worry about remembering. He has
also emptied his lifestyle out by living on a boat.

In later chapters we see that he had done something similar when he went
to study the Indians and Anthropology. He stayed in a camper in the woods.
