Andy, I would propose 'legislation' to eliminate known myths from churches.
People are free to believe, study and advocate anything they want, IMHO. But
I would not say that they -anyone-has a right to indoctrinate children with
such, for it then deprives the children of that very right to study, believe
and advocate. Does this make sense? I know that some will say that it
violates the parent's 'right' to control a child, but you can see from my
choice of words that I am not greatly impressed by this 'right.'
Yes, I take your point about our 'psyches' being in part tied into mythic
arch-types, but this does not mean it is desirable. That is why I suggest
above that _known_ myths be eschewed, and merely studied for their
sociological or psychological interest.
I can't think of any quality or value to mythic psychological needs...but
would be delighted to pursue this question further, and welcome your
thoughts and counter-views.
Best regards,
Lawry

Lawry,
Although, I might agree with you on the mythic psychological need part, I
would
never propose going around and legislating what should or should not be
taught
in houses of worship. I will always lobby for science to be taught in the
public schools and for the removal of any religious doctrine from the public
school currriculum. This includes the One Nation Under God line from the
Pledge
of Allegiance. But I see no need to dictate what is acceptable as religious
doctrines or beliefs. How would you propose that the mythic psychological
needs
be eliminated from our psyche? And is this even a high quality objective?
Is
there no quality or value in mythic psychological needs in your opinion?
kindest regards,
Andy
