Hi Scott, Bo, Platt, John B, 3wd and all,
Joseph Campbell wrote as his advice to all "Follow
your bliss."
My tone of all my email's this weekend was me trying
to communicate that joy, bliss, excitement, pleasure,
enthusiasm that I had been having these last few weeks
arguing, discussing, etc this thread on consciousness.
Have any of you seen the movie or the play "Fiddler
on the Roof"? In it Teyve sings a song "If I were a
rich man". There is a part when he gets filled with
emotion and sighs "that would be the sweetest thing of
all." What he was sighing and singing about at that
moment in the song was the idea that he could spend
all day long with the learned men in the synagogue
praying and studying.
It always brings laughter to me to recall how the
ancient Rabbis described Heaven and the after life.
What they described was sitting around a big table
with all the learned, Moses, Adam, Abraham, the great
Prophets, all the Rabbis and scholars, some of the
Arch Angeles. They would be drinking wine, eating
fish and chicken, challah with butter, and honey. But
most importantly of all they would be studying,
yelling, debating, arguing Torah, Talmud and Kabbalah!
For them Heaven was wrestling with Quality! This is
the sweetest thing of all to my little rabbinic soul.
These last few weeks I couldn't wait to get up in the
morning each weekend, turn on the computer and read
your emails! Read the essays from the web sites you
all had recommended. To Study Torah/Quality was a
Joy!
I wanted to convey that feeling in my email's. So
rather than being somber I was playful. I tried to be
poetic, metaphoric, and plain silly!
In ancient Greece the Athenians competed in athletics,
Rhetoric, Poetry, etc. They competed not only to be
the winner but to pay homage and honor to the
gods/goddesses! It wasn't only Joe Shmoe who won the
laurel crown it was the gods/goddesses! This is what
we are doing in our emails. We are worshiping in the
Church of Reason paying homage and honor to Quality!
We should do it with gusto! We should do it with
poetry! Laughter and song! Enjoy this thing which is
the sweetest thing of all!
I wasn't making fun of any single person I was trying
to make you laugh! I wanted to communicate the
delight I felt. I wanted you to look forward to my
emails even when you didn't agree with them at the
least you could say about me was: I have enthusiasm!
I have joy! I amuse you! I challenge you! Provoke
you!
We are engaged in a noble quest to bring into clarity
the Good, the True and the Beautiful! Take time to
enjoy this wonderful journey we are on. Be charitable
to each other, we are all brethern, knights of the
qualtiy table!
Gary
