Greetings Fellow Travelers,

There are no adequate words to describe my concept of Universal Quality. It
seems that thusfar in the conversation, we have been studying Quality
strictly from a human perspective. When ethics, morality, art, and beauty
are discussed as they relate to Quality, I think we are making definitions
based on a human point of view. I feel that Human Quality is (at best) a
subset of Universal Quality; the one encompassed within the other - or not.

For example, in our discussion of the static levels we established a
hierarchy. We said it was of low Dynamic Quality for a "lower" level to
impose upon a "higher" one. But that presupposes a point of view. Does
Dynamic Quality actually have a point of view? If so, does that mean that
DQ is relative? Or could it mean that Human DQ is relative? If so, I
submit that Human DQ does not actually exist! Only Universal (non-relative)
Dynamic Quality exists, and all else is a construct.

What if there is a Universal Dynamic Quality at work in the Universe? What
if it existed before humans and will exist after? Wouldn't it be completely
impartial? It would have bigger fish to fry (so to speak) than concern
about whether is it of more or less Quality for the Social level to
supersede the Intellectual in humanity. It would be concerned with the
Quality of the Universe itself as a whole.

I'm reminded of the Star Trek prime directive. For those of you unfamiliar
with it, it states that we do not have the right to impose our laws, morals,
ideas, or technology upon any other civilizations we may encounter. The
prime directive says do not interfere. The implied subtext is that we may
not know what we are doing! I can imagine other sentient beings in the
Universe for whom our concept of morality, art, and certainly beauty may not
apply. Our hierarchy for the Static levels may not even hold for them.
That does not mean that our concepts are wrong, or that theirs are. It just
means that those kind of concerns are Relative - not Universal Quality.

Who knows, maybe there isn't even any Dynamic Quality in the Universe.
Maybe the Universe is just operating in the only way that it can. The only
way that is possible. Maybe that's what Quality really is - the Quality of
the Possible.

Wishing you happiness,
Mary Wittler
