SUGGESTION TO EXPLORE CURRENT THINKING
Greetings Maggie and Squad,
The other day Maggie (Hi!) told us how similar Henri Bergson's ideas
are to the MOQ. It could be just a case of selective perception, but
I've been noticing the same thing in a variety of other 'current'
thinkers too. Not only that, but a number of scientists seem to be
'begging' for some explanation beyond SOM.
Some time back, I mentioned a book called "The Glorious Accident".
In the interim I've been reading it, and couldn't help noticing that
you could divide the scientists in the book into two camps. Those
searching for a new metaphysics vs those who are proposing one.
Oliver Sacks, for example, says, "We need a new model of nature which
will permit the notion of innovation, creation, the appearance of
complexity and indeed evolution at every level. There is always the
unexpected." How startling! I've never written to an author before,
but at that moment I wanted to ask him if he's ever heard of the MOQ!
Based on my (very limited) reading, it seems that these kinds of
questions have been poking their heads up more and more frequently
since about 1985. IMO, nobody but Pirsig has gotten it right, but
there sure is a lot of thinking out there tending in the MOQ
direction.
I'm looking forward to Maggie's analysis of Bergson. Last year
sometime there was a thread about the platypi. This year why don't
we expand on that to discuss the areas of difference and agreement
with other current thinkers?
Best wishes,
Mary
