Hey Dustin, Rasheed
Dustin said: As far as teaching like Pirsig rather than teaching Pirsig, I do not know which is best. To be precise, "what is good and what is not good" comes from the mouth of Socrates through the pen of Plato. I'd rather teach like Socrates than teach Socrates. How about you?
John says: I don't know enough about the guy to comment, some would say not knowing what I'm talking about hasn't stopped me so far, but I'm not sure how to respond. On the Pirsig point I think I see what you mean. Teach Like Pirsig, about Pirsig, would probably be the ideal.
Dustin said: Then we can move from isolationist to globalist, and we won't worry about war so much.
John says: I find the corruption of the word Globalization to mean international greed most upsetting. True Globalization to me means living in the global village were similarities and differences are compered and contrasted and rejoiced.
Rasheed said: When you talk about teaching Quality then, I see it as setting the stage for this event to happen within the mind of the individual student, the moment when, inspired by a certain flash of insight, she says, "Hey, that sounds interesting, I think I'll check it out." For such an event to happen, a teacher must be charismatic, interesting, and responsive to students.
John says: A Quality teacher, you might say. I'm sure we all have the memory of an inspired and inspiring teacher when we were students, some one who made going to school worth the trouble. I know I do, but what was it about these teachers, you could say it was charisma but I'm more inclined to think that these were DQ people, Brujos. They saw the Quality in what they were doing and while other teacher were losing heart they were able to hold onto what they were doing the job for. That's what I aim to do and I think the MoQ will give me the frame work I need.

John,
You made great points about kids and Quality. I would like to add one to what you said about finding the one thing that each kid learned from sports.
You said that each child got something out of the game. You just had to find it and help them recognize it. THAT IS IT.
Everyone of us, child and adult, has at least one thing that we can contribute to life, to the game. When we start to see others as members of our team, when we recognize our own arete, when we help others find their arete', then we can start to move out of Hell. Your words inspire me. We need teachers, but more importantly we need Quality teachers. Maybe we should ask our fellow educators if they are "teaching Quality this year."
