Hello everybody,
I am in the process of revising the Copleston
annotations, but I would like to start by saying that
the feeling Pirsig refers to is unlikely to be the one
referred to in the song I allude in the subject of
this email (Feelings).
I am not well versed in neuroscience or philosophy of
mind, but I reckon there is a difference between a
feeling which probably corresponds more to social
patterns (e.g. feeling hurt if a colleague fails to
say hello on a given morning), and an emotion which is
primal (e.g. fear or panic in the occurance of an
earthquake).
Taking the risk of sounding corny, I ask: Is love
biological or social or a dialectic, dynamic
combination of both, which is why it sometimes pulls
the rug from under our feet?
Cheers,
Hugo Masse
