I would add that when people use the word "evil" they DO seem to refer to
biological urges and drives that go beyond whatever the society values.
Society controls them for its existence. Pirsig mentioned that Islam sees
America as the Great Satan because Islam is a culture that is aware that
America (a more intellectual society) is letting biological drives out of the
box that Islam has worked to contain them in.
Other forces and patterns are "bad" or "wrong," but "evil" stays pretty close
to this meaning. I haven't collected quotes on this, though. It's a casual
observation.
