Calling all foci
Seems like the freedom topic hasn't ignited our imagination
exactly. I think because it belongs to a stage left behind and is
confusing when re-introduced now. If we keep to the explorer
metaphor that Pirsig used in his greeting to the Lila Squad, it has
made us drift back to the MOQ estuary where we can't see
anything but the dynamic ocean itself.
Freedom (vs order) was P's initial motive when he planned to write
the Indian anthropological book, but as the MOQ wasn't invented
yet the DQ/SQ dichotomy has no bearing on that stage. Later
when he despaired on that task and took up the metaphysical
challenge again, freedom became the essence of the dynamic half
of his dynamic/static dualism. Not versus any particular social
system - as in the Brujo example - but just a demonstration of the
constant struggle between the two sides of Quality itself.
And yet, even at this stage of the MOQ the static levels had not
been introduced so we should be careful to wield our (enormous)
knowledge of the MOQ on to this early stage of MOQ itself - it has
a kind of perpetual effect that I find disquieting. The entries this
month have been all good, but freedom belongs to the said
"estuary" stage where an explorer hasn't left the SOM completely.
When the MOQ waterway is entered the question is not if our "will"
is free - it smacks of the good old ghost-in-the-machine thinking,
but rather how the static world interacts with the ambient dynamic
counterpart.
I found Wavedave's rendering of the two views of time very
interesting. IMHO it matches the ZAMM events whether they are
seen as the emergence of subject/object metaphysics, the coming
of the intellectual level - or both (Did we ever reach an agreement at
that point?) which becomes the 'processive time'. It follows that
the social level ecomes 'cyclic time'. But who was that man from
1850 BC. Tell us Dave!
Also Marco's "environment" theory is intriguing, but 'space' - the
three-vectored continuum - is not related to your biosphere,
economy and public opinion? Or? But highly interesting all the
same. The social level as economy and intellect as public opinion!
Hmmm How and when did you get that insight? We must discuss
it once we get back to where we left our (thinking) equipment.
